SOUTHERN CROSS POLEY FLEECE LINEDThe Southern Cross Poley fleece-lined
shown here with the new AUSTRALIAN SAFETY OXBOW. The curve in the stirrup allows for easier release of a
caught boot. The Saddle has a 5" dip in
the seat. The knee pads are 3 1/2". The seat is web-strung with an
adjustable wood/steel tree. Merino wool lines the panels and the hardware
is solid brass.

Southern Cross saddles can come in a variety of combinations. Black seat and knee pads , and black thigh patch ,on brown leather is popular. Here is how that combination looks with black suede. One advantage of the color combination is that either black or brown strap goods look appropriate. There is no extra charge for black on brown (or brown on black!).
Another version of the Southern Cross Poley in the ever popular black and
tan combo. This saddle has black suede seat and knee pads, but the sude is
only on the rider side of the knee pad, or poley.. Of course, as usual, the
thigh patch is suede...

THE CATTLEMANThis is a tough sadle built for heavy ranch work -- yet weighs just 20 lbs with a horn. The seat has a 4 l/2" dip, the knee pads are 3 l/2" and the cinching is in-skirt C rigging placed at 3/4 position. Without horn, the saddle weighs 19 lbs. The Virginia PoleyThis saddle is the lightest saddle made by Southern Cross Saddlery, in
Brisbane, Australia. It is built on super-light PLUSH leather. The tree is
aluminum and timber. The knee pads are 3 l/2", and the depth of seat is 4
l/2" The softness of the leather gives the saddle a feel of deep luxury. The
weight of the saddle, without girth and stirrups is 16 lbs.

Southern Cross DrafterNEW, the
Southern Cross Drafter, a unique marriage between Australian and Western
saddles. The rigging is Western, with an in-skirt C-ring. The tree is wood
and aluminum, making it extremely close contact -- and adjustable to fit any
wither from average down to extremely low, or none. Horses with high
withers, as in Thoroughbreds, can have the same saddle in a STUFFED panel.
The knee pads are 3 1/2", and the dip in the seat is 5". Stirrups hang in
the dressage position. The seat is web-strung, with a Cheyenne roll. Saddle

Sport PoleyThe Sport Poley is a light saddle ideal for barrel racing, team penning, light roping. At 19 lbs (not counting weight of stirrups and girth) the saddle offers advantage in timed events. It has a web-suspended seat, on a super-tough solid tree. The dip in the seat is 4", and the knee pads are 4", on the rider side. Back cinch rings are an option, but it comes with back cinch slot. The Southern Cross Traditional uses the legendary surcingle, common over history to Australian saddles, in conjunction with the big D, now popular on most Australian saddles. This system eliminates buckles, and makes it easier to cinch the horse.

The
horns on the Southern Cross can be built to any specs. Also, back cantle
rings can be added for hauling game, or for training purposes. Add $100 for
custom horn, and $50 for training rings.
A rear view of a Southern Cross saddle. The two large horse-shoe Ds on either side are for traditional Australian saddle bags. The brackets at the base of the cantle take the straps fitted to our ever-popular cantle bag, and the fall-down Ds higher up on the cantle are for tying on a coat or bedroll. All Southern Cross saddles come with these fittings. |

Any Southern Cross saddle can be finished out in Sterling silver, lined
with jeweler's gold. Silver Ds and silver
buckles are $60 each, fitted. The silver centerpiece for the breastplate
is $130 fitted. (ADD) Silver to any Southern Cross saddle without
horn, add $700. Add $150 for the silver cap on a horn.
